Heavy rain is being blamed for causing a 51 car pile up in the San José tunnel in Málaga last Saturday.
Fortunately there were no reports of anyone being seriously hurt, with just three people requiring hospital treatment and 12 others suffered slight injuries.
The accident happened in the tunnel at the 242 km point of the A-7 ring road round the city, in the area of Ciudad Jardín to the north of the city. It was initially caused by a lorry which hit a post spreading petrol over the carriageways in both directions. Traffic was able to slowly pass it for a time, but drivers travelling at speed on the other carriageway soon caused a pile up.
The crash caused major hold ups and traffic was diverted into the city centre. The road was closed and finally cleared at 10pm.
