The Malaga Court has imposed two years’ imprisonment on a resident of Estepona for possession and distribution of pornographic material, among which were a number of images showing young children and babies.
The sentence was passed after the defendant, Robert B., and the prosecution, reached a plea bargain, which included a reduction to the penalty requested. As part of the arrangement the defendant accepted the charges filed against him by the prosecutors and in so doing, as he had no previous history of pedophilia the sentence was suspended for two years.
The Guardia Civil first began investigating a Russian hosted website, www.hi5.com, in 2008. They found that Robert B was connected to the site on which many pages and forums showed him with children.
Agents eventually raided his home in 2009, at which time they located 4,602 files of child pornography. They also recovered another 3,970 files that the defendant had previously deleted.
The ruling said that ‘a significant number of images showed babies and children of a very young age, which were particularly humiliating and degrading in character.’
