The Mayor of Fuengirola, Esperanza Oña, received last week a rather unusual present. The newly formed Braveheart Scottish partnership gave her a traditional Kilt, Scotland’s National Dress.
The presentation was made by the vice president of the association, Wendi Van Der Veen, who was accompanied by two members of the group based in Fuengirola. The mayor was promised a kilt when she met with the Association at the recent Feria Internacional de los Pueblos.
Van Der Veen said that they wanted to demonstrate their gratitude to the people of Fuengirola through the mayor for the interest that they have already shown to the group locally.
The Association President, Leslie Thomson, said the partnership was founded this year following activities held at the Scottish Peoples Fair, which was organised to promote cultural links between Scotland and Spain, particularly from around Fuengirola and the Costa del Sol.
He said that various cultural activities were arranged to develop and promote this union, while also helping to raise funding which would be donated to charitable groups who are serving the needy.
The Scottish Kilt presented to the mayor was made in the KILTCENTRE, Hamilton, Scotland. It was handed over together with its certificate of authenticity.
