TORREVIEJA UNEMPLOYMENT UP
According to the official figures provided by SERVEF, 385 more people joined the list of registered unemployed in the city of Torrevieja in September.
This figure brings the total of those registered to be 9,485.
MENTAL HEALTH CONGRESS TOOK PLACE
On Friday morning, at the Dr. Manuel Garcia Gea health facility in Torrevieja, the second annual conference for mental health professionals took place.
The aim of the conference is to provide a “new approach” in dealing with the issues of mental health.
METEOR STORM MAKES A SHOW
On Saturday night, at around 10pm, a meteor storm took place in the skies of the Costa Blanca, with up to 750 bursts per hour of activity.
Although an annual event, sky watchers believe that the display gets stronger each year, but it becoming increasingly difficult to see because of the amount of unnatural light that is polluting the night sky.
CELEBRATIONS ALL SET
Torrevieja is preparing to celebrate another year in honour of Our Lady of Begoña. A festival that the city be held on October 11, which is organized by the Association of Friends of Athletic ” El salinero “.
The day celebrates an apparition of the Virgin Mary at the site of the Basilica of Begoña, in Bilbao, Spain. Affectionately called “Amatxu” (meaning “mother” in Basque), she is said to have appeared to local people in the early 16th century.
OUTLET SHOPPING IN TORREVIEJA
The seventh Feria Outlet of shops is taking place in Torrevieja from the 8th until 12th October, with a wide range of bargains on offer, from shoes to clothes, gifts and books, making it an ideal place to snap up an early Christmas bargain.
This year, there is a new site for the fair, which is located on the Paseo Vista Alegre, rather than the original location near the harbour.
The annual book fair is also taking place nearby, on until October 16th at the Paseo de la Libertad, with a staggering 40,000 books on sale from the seven outlets.
