U3A FUENGIROLA – MONTHLY LECTURE (JANUARY 2012)
The subject this month will be “Slavery and the British Empire – A Road to Prosperity and Reform” and is to be held in the Hall of the Ark Christian Fellowship, at Las Rampas, Fuengirola on Monday 30th January 2012.

The subject this month will be “Slavery and the British Empire – A Road to Prosperity and Reform” and is to be held in the Hall of the Ark Christian Fellowship, at Las Rampas, Fuengirola on Monday 30th January 2012.
The talk will be given by Chris Beckett, who will tell us about slavery, with its place in History and its effect on the Growth of the British Empire, he will use graphics to enhance his talk. Also he will tell us about the horrors of the “Slave Triangle”.
Other avenues covered will be how the slave trade created institutions that effected the growth of the British Empire, with the many fortunes made and the lost, plus the new Cities that were developed as a result.
Finally he will tell us why the riches of the slave trade carried the ”Seed” of its own destruction and the legacy of the slave trade for us all now.
Doors open at 16.00 and the talk will commence at 16.30 for approximately an hour.
Attendance is free to members, and a small charge of five euro’s is charged to non-members.
These talks are to inform us of our colourful history, and to give you an opportunity to meet like-minded people.
