The new expansion works at Carboneras docks were completed last week by the Port Authority of Almería leading to an increased capacity in the number of vessels the harbour is now able to accommodate.
A ceremony to mark the occasion was carried out by the president of the Port Authority, Trinidad Cabel together with a representative of Endesa Generación S.A., Adolfo de Rueda Villén.
Economically it is now hoped that the port will see a major impact in terms of investments, earnings and job creation as well as the creation of companies and ancillary businesses that provide indirect benefits to the port and the area which have so far been limited by the capacity of the facility.
Cabel said that the provision of a high-capacity port, will now provide entrance to larger vessels, giving Carboneras a strategic position that will undoubtedly have a positive impact on its economy.
In the last year Carboneras port traffic has grown by 33.65%.
