To those of you of a certain age who thought the days of the “Big Bands “had gone, think again. Here on the Costa Blanca we are so fortunate to have our own 16 piece Big Band named the Miller Men who play every month at the Rosales Restaurant on the Lemon Tree road Guadamar. The band are musicians drawn from all over the area some as far away as Benidorm, they play under the musical direction of trumpeter Alan Skelton who also writes and directs the music for the band.

The band plays the music of Glen Miller, Ted Heath, Count Basie, and many other famous Big Bands of yesteryear. The show also includes Paul Allen a very talented singer in The Matt Monroe Frank Sinatra mode, and Ian Gibson who is the compare and comedian and who keeps the whole show moving along Having attended all the concerts up to date believe me this Band is making its mark in the area. The highlight of the night for me at last months concert was the bands rendition of the old Benny Goodman classic “Sing Sing Sing” with the whole Band swinging and a superb performance on the drums from Keith Meyer, another piece that went down well with the packed audience was Glen Millers Moonlight Seranade showing off the talents of the reed section with special mention being made of Gil Monks on lead Sax. Alan Skelton who writes the arrangements for the band tries to include something new for each concert. If you have not heard the Miller Men Big Band yet and appreciate a good night out, watch out for details of their next concert in your local paper.
