The unions representing the local police of Torrevieja have announced a protest outside the town hall on Friday March 15.

The move, which has the support of most of the 170 officers, is to protest about the lack of agreement being made in discussions relating to expanding the working schedule of the officers, as representatives accuse the government side formed of Eduardo Gil Rebollo, the councillor responsible for the police and public safety, the Mayor, Eduardo Dolón and Agustina Esteve, from Human Resources, of destroying their working agreements.

Gil Rebollo has been defending the town hall stance which aims to ensure the annual quota of 1,664 working hours is met, the equivalent to 34 hours per week, allowing for a four week holiday period.

For their part, the workers have considered the strain on their workload unacceptable, especially given the fact that 24 roles were lost this week, serving police officers who would act in auxiliary and support roles, covering leave, providing extra operational support and the likes.

Whilst calling for the resignation of Mayor Dolón, the protest has promised a number of surprises during their gathering, some of which they even say will be “fun”.
