MAYOR AWARDS 17 SCHOLARSHIPS TO ELITE ATHLETES

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, accompanied by the Councillor for Sports, Luis Maria Pizana, has made a number of cash awards to Torrevieja athletes.

The accompanying press release refers to 17 young athletes, the names of which, their sports and amounts awarded, are listed below:

Jesus Rogel-Sanchez (Sailing). 4,500 euros. Ascensión Roca de Togores (Sailing). 4,500 euros. Luís Manuel Corchete Martínez (Athletics). 4,500 euros. Emiliano Casal (Boxing). 3,000. Ivan Martinez-Peiro (Athletics). 1125 euros. Nicolas Kuhn (Tennis). 1125 euros. Carmen Perez-Vila (Rowing). 1125 euros. Daniel Marco Chapapría (Rowing). 1125 euros. Mercedes Fernández-Pellicer (Sailing). 1125 euros. Belén García-Girona (Rowing). 940 euros. Paola Henarejos (Rhythmic Gymnastics). 940 euros. Mireya Ortigosa Mateo (Rowing). 470 euros. Maria Teresa Hernandez-Rodriguez (Cycling). 285 euros. Joshua Merino-Esteve (Tennis). 285 euros. Sergio Marco Chapapría (Rowing). 285 euros. Jose Francisco Rocamora (Athletics). 285 euros. Gonzalo Sánchez Sánchez (Athletics). 285 euros.

Amongst the awards made were grants of 3,000 euro to 31 year old bóxer Emiliano Casal, current holder of the Spanish lightweight title, and 4,500 euros to Torrevieja’s sailing world champion, 34 year old Jesus Rogel-Sanchez while 13 year old tennis sensation Nicolas Kuhn received 1125 euros.

Dolon congratulated the ‘young’ athletes who have received this municipal subsidy and urged them to continue working and striving to make even greater achievements
