Torrevieja City Council said that they expect to repair the damage caused by last week’s theft of copper wire to street lighting along the N332 within the next few days.
The robbery took place about a week ago to the lighting along the section of the N332 adjacent to Torrevieja cemetery, known to be one of the most dangerous stretches of roads in the region.
Thousands of drivers, said by the Ministry of development to be a daily average of 33,000, use this road as a link from Torrevieja to Cartagena and Orihuela road.
Some twenty streetlights from the cemetery to the junction with the road to San Miguel de Salinas are currently inoperative.
Many drivers had attributed the outage directly to budget cuts in the electricity supply but the government team said that because of the dangerous nature of the road there would be no situation where such cuts would ever be made.
