Spanish supermarket chain Eroski has had a complaint against its value burgers closed by the Basque consumer association, after an independent laboratory claims that tests carried out on products recalled by the chain did not contain equine DNA. A random selection of 55 items were checked from a subsidy of Campofrío, all of which “accurately reflect their characteristics”, which means that there has not been any kind of fraud or lack of consumer information.

Having issued threats should the situation not improve, Russia has banned the import of frozen meat from both Spain and the Netherlands, following “serious claims” over the “failures in the control system of meat production”. Russian authorities said that Spain doesn´r meet the control standards of their country, but the restrictions are provisional and will be lifted once standards are raised to the required level. Ryanair has reached an agreement with cabin crew at all its bases, as well as with pilots in Alicante, Bristol, Cork, East Midlands, Luton and Shannon, which will become effective on April 1, and that includes wage increases and improvements to the shift systems. In total, staff are all looking at receiving a 10% increase in their salaries, as well as other concessions, albeit in total over a period of the next 5 years. The downward trend in the cost of petrol appeared to change direction this week, no doubt just coinciding with the huge increase in road traffic journeys for Easter, with the cost of filling a tank being around 50 cents more than a week ago, based on a 55 litre tank that would cost just short of 80 euro to fill. On the other hand, diesel still dropped slightly, with a 55 litre tank costing 75 euro to fill, around 40 cents cheaper than a week ago.
