The Masters
If you are one of those avid golf fans then you next weekend you will be glued to the TV as events in the first major of the year at Augusta unfolded.

For many golfers the masters somehow represents the kick start to their own competitive golfing year as they come out of hibernation from a golf winter and seeing the wonderful condition of the Augusta course. Maybe this is the allure of the Masters or maybe it is just a case that you are mesmerised by the sight of a course that you probably will never have the opportunity to play but there is something magical about the Masters.

Usually it is anyone’s guess who the eventual winner will be BUT with Tiger Woods fast out of the blocks this year and regaining his world number one spot for the first time since his sponsorship deal with Durex, he will be a hard man to beat and the Europeans have had a slow and disappointing start to the year.

Much has been written in recent years about how changes in technology are making some of these events into a putting competition and I am sure that the ever growing list of non big name players winning the majors adds fuel to this fire but at August in particular there are many more elements to the game that a winner needs to become a champion.

Not only is a sound swing required but an incredible amount of vision, touch, feel ,nerve and mental toughness and some of these things aren’t taught but come from deep inside the player. Just a pity that Sky have been allowed to take the TV rights away from the BBC
