CHILD SIZED PUPPETS AND BEAUTIFUL CRAFTWORK IN LA NUCA

Maxi y Dixi

Every Sunday some ten or twelve carft stalls are set up in the cosy little square in front of the Town Hall in La Nucía, converting it into a lively “open air gallery”. The fair is advertised with the words “Artesanía de Autor”, because in every stall the author of the products is there, sometimes even working at his or her craft.

This Sunady, 14th of April, the ninth edition of the fair will offer beautiful hand bound books, design jewelry in metal or macramé with semi-precious stones and original pottery. There is hand painted glass and textile, individually designed and made baby clothes and shoes, bracelets with celtic knots, patchwork, leather bags, belts and hats.

The enchanting puppets Maxi and Dixi, who already took the scene several times, will come again to amaze the public of all ages. They are almost one meter high and not only manipulated, but even made by their Czech puppeteers and play all sorts of instruments. After their performance they usually mix with the public.

Both the craftmen and women who participate, and the artists that bring some life to the fair, change from week to week. The following Sunday, the 21st, for example, Alan will juggle and ride a monocycle, while the stalls will offer forged iron, soap, wooden toys and puzzles, felt bags, and silver, bronze and aluminium jewelry.

The fair opens every Sunday from 10 am till 2 pm on the square in front of the Town Hall, in the middele of the old Town Centre. This is worth a visit and if you want to do so, you can join one of the guided tours (for free) that start in the fair at 11, 12 and 1 o’clock. Photographs of previous weeks and a list of who will be there in the coming four weeks you can find on the web site of the organizers, the craft association Amata: www.amata.es.
