TRAGAMILLAS TAKE PART IN SPANISH ELITE DUATHLON CHAMPIONSHIP

Last Saturday the Spanish National Duathlon was held in the Valencian town of Canet de Berenguer. Fausto López, Jesus Vicea, Alberto Plaza, Alberto Lara, Sergio Gomez and Christopher Vera made up the Club Tragamillas team from Orihuela.

With three of the athletes under 20 years of age their finishing position of 22nd from 65 starters was a credit to all of the young athletes.

They had hoped to do rather better and felt they were disadvantaged by their very early start. This, added to the fact that much of the run and the bike segment was done in the rain and very strong winds, deprived them of a top ten finish.

However a club spokesman said that the result was satisfactory given the youth of the squad which gives a great deal of hope for the future.
