TORREVIEJA COSTA LIONS HONOURED AT CHARTER CELEBRATIONS

The Torrevieja Costa Lions Club held their annual Charter Night Celebrations with an excellent dinner and dance at Restaurante Marjal Camping in Guardamar del Segura on Saturday 13th April.
The event was attended by Lions from Reykjavik Engey, Mazarron Bahia, Calpe and Benissa, Vera and District, Torrevieja Suomi and Madrid Lions Clubs in addition to the many sponsors and supporters of Lions locally.
Before the festivities commenced the Lions of Torrevieja Costa, Torrevieja Suomi and Mazarron Bahia were honoured with diplomas presented by Ann Kristin Peltonen, Secretary General of the Fundacion Lions Clubs Espana in recognition for the excellent work of all three clubs in driving the Lions for Lorca Appeal, which culminated recently with the opening of a purpose built educational facility for disabled children in Lorca.
Torrevieja Costa Lions Club President Janette Bennett also received a Diploma de Reconocimiento from Lions District Governor Miguel Angel Fernandez in recognition of service to Lionism and the community of Torrrevieja and surrounding areas during 2012 -13.
In addition to the Club honours, Torrevieja Costa Lions Club Secretary Iain Bennett was presented wirh The Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. This award named after the founder of Lions Clubs International is given in recognition of dedication to humanitarian service to the highest degree.
Iain first joined Lions in 1982 in Stirling Scotland, and became a member of the Torrevieja Costa Lions in 2007 serving as Treasurer, Secretary and President in the ensuing years. The award sponsored by Torrevieja Costa Lions in support of the Lions Clubs International Foundation was presented to Iain by Club Treasurer Peter Long.
The Celebrations went on until the early hours of Sunday with dancing to the excellent band PDQ.
