A Boeing 737-800 aircraft, carrying 189 passengers, landed at Murcia San Javier airport on Monday, to be met by an arch of water from two airport fire engines.
However, the greeting from the emergency services was not as a result of an incident, other than to welcome the first commercial aircraft to touch down as an aeronautical baptism of the new route from Prague to Murcia San Javier.
The passengers were also greeted with flowers and promotional material for the area, from a route which the company Quality Tours, who specialise in travel for senior members of society, believe can carry 1,700 new passengers.
Murcia San Javier now serves 19 locations, Belfast, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Brussels / Charleroi, Dublin, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, London / Luton, London / Stansted, London / Gatwick, Madrid-Barajas, Newcastle, Oslo, Prague, Manchester and Leeds, and plays host to seven companies, Ryanair, Jet2.com, Easyjet, JetairFly, Air Nostrum, Norwegian, and now, Quality Tours.
