MINISTER CONFIRMS CORVERA DELAY

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, has confirmed on Monday that the new Murcia International Airport at Corvera will not be ready to go into service before the summer.

However, in a statement whilst making a presentation at the International Fotografía Submarina Bahía de Mazarrón he the press that this will be a reality, with the state government working to try to avoid further delay, saying “Right now that a date is precipitated”, what is clear is that “it will not be for the summer” and that “we are working hard” to minimise further delays in opening.

Meanwhile, the underwater photography competition, which was the reason for the presentation, will take place in September and offers prizes valued at a total of 16,000 euro.

Cruz said, “it is a competition that will give prestige and publicity to our waters and seabed as a tourism product”, and that “the region has a magnificent underwater world, with a great variety of fauna and flora, caves, spaces and remains of archaeological wrecks”, which together with the transparency of the water, at an average temperature of 20 degrees and the highest environmental rating, “make the Murcia coast one of the main attractions of the Mediterranean”.
