International high street coffee retailer Starbucks has partnered with Areas, a company dedicated to the refreshment of travellers, to open a new store in Madrid Barajas airport, which brings the total number of stores in Spain to 72, including in 8 Spanish airports.

Media advertising spending fell by 17.7% in the first quarter of 2013, compared to the same period last year, according to statistics from the combined data provided by Media Hotline and Arce Media. In total ad spending was 848 million euro, 182 million less than the first quarter of 2012. Cinema advertising suffered the biggest drop being 37.4% compared to last year, newspaper advertising dropped by 22.4%, magazines by 18.7%, whereas television suffered a 17.7% drop and radio by 18.6%. Internet advertising also suffered a drop, but of just 6%. Television still leads the field in terms of proportion of investment with 48.2% of all advertising investment, followed by newspapers at 16.8%, internet advertising now holds 10.9% of all advertising revenue, slightly ahead of radio with 9% of the market share, outdoor placards have a 7.6% of revenue, magazines 6% whereas the overall investment in cinema based advertising is just 0.2% of all revenue.

Online retailer Amazon´s logistic centre in Madrid town of San Fernando de Henares plans to provide work for about 400 during the course of this year, between temporary and permanent posts, according to a statement from the CEO of Amazon in Spain, François Nuyts, during a visit by the Regional President, Ignacio González, to the site where 220 people currently work. The centre has been in operation for around 18 months and serves Spain as well as other European countries from the 32,000 square metre plot. The amazon.es website continues to grow in popularity as shoppers switch from high street stores to on-line equivalents, with around 15 million products currently available.

The volume of Spanish wine exported in the month of February fell by 10.4%, whilst the overall turnover increased by 15.5% to 200.1 million euro, due to an average price increase of 28.9%, or 1.35 euro per litre, according to data released this week from the Spanish tax office. In total, 284.3 million litres of wine were sent overseas, but the trend for higher prices and lower sales has continued for a second month.
