The Torrevieja councillor for public safety and security, Eduardo Gil Rebollo, filed a 29 page complaint this week in which he describes the alleged sabotage of police equipment.

The biggest cause of complaint was the deactivation of the alcohol breathalyser unit in the Torrevieja police headquarters, which was reportedly damaged by water which had leaked in from the roof. The 2,000 euro unit was therefore rendered disabled. The local police then borrowed a replacement unit from the Guardia Civil to enable them to continue to monitor blood alcohol levels.

There is an ongoing dispute between officers of the local police and the town hall over changes to shift patterns and reductions in staffing, as well as the disagreement when the councillor changed a road sign after one of the officers issued the councillor´s vehicle with a fine for parking in a loading bay.

Similarly, the councillor has been facing mounting criticism over other alleged irregularities, such as his unpunished involvement in the recent mobile phone scandal, the alleged award of numerous contracts for private security to a company run by his brother, some of the payments for which were questioned as to their validity. The latest scandal the councillor faces is an allegation that work is being carried out on the building in which he lives, although no license for the work was granted by the town hall, further complicated after a number of complainants stated that the company doing the work were contracted to the town hall, questioning as to whether the work on a private building was being funded by the residents or if there had been some misappropriation in the award of the work.
