The Councillor of the Coast, Martina Schreurer, Ana Mas from culture and Rosa Martinez, the Councillor for Education have visited the Centro Municipal de Orihuela Costa, located on Calle Ciprés, where the new “reading point” for residents of Orihuela and the coast will be installed.
Although not quite a dedicated library that some have been campaigning for, the centre has already got more than 3,000 books ready for use, which have been catalogued over the last few months by a team of volunteers.
Once the area has been prepared, the centre will provide the library service for residents, but may well be extendable in the future if the facility becomes as successful as many complainants have suggested.
The town hall are now seeking more volunteers for the project, as Martina Schreurer has said, “We would very much appreciate volunteers from Orihuela Costa to take part and help from the start to make this a Project where the town hall and the residents will cooperate for the benefit of all”.
If you are interested in helping out, the first step is to make contact with the International Resident´s Office in the Playa Flamenca town hall, where you will be guided through the simple application process and can do your part to help with this community focused initiative.
Having already opened the centres in the city, and now this unit on the coast, the next phase will be the opening of two other cultural facilities in the cisterns of Hurchillo and Virgen del Camino.
