Torrevieja City Council has published a notice in the official bulletins stating that they have initiated the process of recovering municipal land, categorised as intended for public and green use, of the Sector 22 urbanisation “El Acequión”, which is currently paved and used as parking exclusively for the private use of residents of the urbanisation.
However, according to the community president and the administrators, the city council has yet to notify the residents of the plan, or the developer who decided to transform the green zone into a parking area.
According to a press release from the Los Verdes green party of Torrevieja, the company involved was the developer Edén del Mar, one of the companies alleged to have been involved in a scandal that saw politicians, including the former PP Mayor Torrevieja, Pedro Hernández Mateo, benefit from the sale of land, in a case that saw a reported a profit of 5.4 million Euro.
The 8,000 square metre plot of land would return to public use, returning the land to the designation of the General Plan, but concerns are being raised as to the ability to create a “green” space on a plot that has been a car park for the last 13 years.
The Los Verdes believe that the PP councillors should be held accountable for the irregularities in town planning. As even by the fact they failed to act would constitute an offence, much in the same way that the former Mayor of Orihuela has been found guilty in a case involving his lack of action relating to the sale of a plot of land on the Orihuela Costa.
