On Saturday 4th May the Hashers from Cambridge, Truro and Hastings (collectively, the Mojacar Jubilado Hash, who meet up in Almeria every year) arrived at Oria for a mountain hash, organised by the Indalo. Given that most of them live their lives at sea level, they didn’t look to be too happy when told that they were now standing at an altitude just lower than Mount Snowdon, and that we would be going even higher. They thought the air was thin enough already. They looked even less enthusiastic to learn that it was a 5 bags of flour long hash!
However, around 50 of us plus mutts departed the gasolineria – about 25 walkers and 25 runners. The runners soon left the town to climb into the higher reaches of the Sierra de las Estancias, through very pretty almond groves. They made their way along tracks until they were able to start a fast descent through the fragrant pine forest, arriving for the circle just after the walkers.
The walkers had enjoyed a leisurely ‘bimble’ through Oria; up to the Arab fort; a peek into the Church (possibly the most beautiful in Almería) and a return down campo lanes.
The circle provided much amusement, most notably when Cambridge won the ‘Boat Race’ again. Then there was more eating, drinking and making merry at Bar El Fraix.
