The FAUTCOVA auto trader´s association of the Valencia region have called for “urgent action” to eradicate the illegal sale of cars in the street, a practice that, according to the federation, “creates unfair competition for some 4,000 accredited professionals”.
According to the president of the group, Manuel Nemesio, “the illegal sale of used cars on public roads has increased by 20% since the start of the economic crisis, and has become an uncontrolled market of vendors who do not pay taxes or have mandatory permits”.
In a meeting with the trade and tourism officials, the group has denounced the street sellers, and urged the public officials to take “the necessary mechanisms to prevent these unregulated sales” and to promote awareness to the public.
In addition, the three associations representing mechanics and workshops in Alicante (ATAYAPA), Castellón (ASTRAUTO) and Valencia (FEVAUTO), who are integrated within FAUTCOVA, are looking for further regulation to map and monitor mechanics.
