The incident occurred at kilometre 41 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the highway and fell into the gorge of Del Moral.

Firefighters rushed to the scene, but faced a complicated rescue because there was a risk that the car would continued hurtling downhill.

Emergency crews rescued the first three of the occupants of the vehicle, but two other people were still trapped, although they were all eventually released.

One of the occupants was taken to the Emergency Canarian University Hospital, Our Lady of Candelaria, and is the one with the most serious injuries, while the other four were referred to a health center of Puerto de la Cruz.
