MOTHER DIES PROTECTING SONS FROM POLICE

A woman in her 70´s has died, following a routine check of a vehicle by the Guardia Civil in Rubielos de Mora, a municipality located in the province of Teruel, Aragon, in the north of Spain.

The Guardia Civil have explained that during a routine check of a vehicle on Monday, they found the woman in a “slightly indisposed” state in the car. The officers immediately rendered assistance to the woman, who was travelling in the car with one of her sons, and accompanied her to the nearest health centre, where she “thanked” the officers for the assistance before she was attended by an on-call doctor.

A few minutes after arriving in the health centre, the woman entered into cardiac arrest, having showed signs of having ingested a narcotic substance, which resulted in attempts to revive her failing, and her subsequent death.

The drugs consumed were identified and evidence was found in the vehicle of illegal drug dealing activity, resulting in officers requesting and enacting search of the homes of her two sons, both said to be of middle age, in the towns of Alcalá de la Selva in Teruel, and Rafalbuñol in Valencia, including of the male who was with her at the time of the incident.

During this search, the officers found 561 grams of methamphetamine, 40 grams of cocaine and 19 grams of hashish.

The hypothesis of the incident is that the woman ingested drugs in order to hide them from a potential search of the vehicle by the Guardia Civil, resulting in her death, as a direct result of an attempt to protect her children from prosecution. One of the sons, the one with her in the car, has been remanded in custody, whilst the second has been released pending further investigations, both charged with offences relating to crimes against public health.
