A 1.5 metre long dolphin was rescued from the beaches of Elche this weekend, after it had become disorientated near the shore.

The rescue started at around 20:30 on Sunday night, at the beach of Arenales del Sol, when a team from the Valencia Oceanographic group attended, finally setting the creature free some two hours later.

The coastal lifeguards had first spotted the mammal swimming near the local police offices, in an obviously concerned state, managing to rescue it with a blanket, bringing it to the shore so as it didn´t get trapped in the sand or lost in the dark, before the professionals arrived.

The teams monitored the waters for some time to ensure that there was no repeat of the stressful incident, concluding that freedom has been achieved thanks to their dedication.
