The equivalent of the Speaker of the House, Jesús Posada, admitted that the controversy highlighted through the media, and the subsequent backlash from public opinion who became aware of the plan, has resulted in a “change of mind”.
Although it is not entirely a success, as the board unanimously agreed the proposal put by Posada for alcoholic drinks to be excluded from the subsidised price list, and so the new contractor is free to set any price they choose for these drinks, whilst light refreshments and food will still be dictated by the maximum price agreed.
Posada also stated that the inclusion of alcoholic drinks is not a new concept, as it was part of the 2005 contract award, but as the rest of the country was facing so much hardship then, it perhaps went unnoticed.
