Details have been released this week of an incident in which a local police officer in Málaga, assigned to environmental protection duties, has been bitten on the arm by a 1.5 metre long snake, after capturing the serpent in the toilets of a local bar.
The officer was responding to reports of sightings of the snake in the premises last month, when he found it hiding behind a mop bucket. The snake is said to have taken a defensive pose, having noticed the presence of the officer.
The police managed to catch the snake with their specialist equipment and the officer proceeded to load it into a cage for transportation. Seemingly not wanting to me removed, the snake then lunged forward, with power and speed, biting the officer on the right forearm, causing bleeding.
The office was given medical treatment, including a vaccine, and recovered well. The snake was transferred to an animal centre before being checked for any injuries and being released into the wild.
