So far this year, officers from the Valencia police have carried out 2,240 inspections on venues relating to entertainment, music and gaming, resulting in 350 cases of violations being recorded, 328 of which have been classed as serious.
In total, there have been 1,562 inspections of venues offering entertainment, the remaining 678 being businesses who provided gaming facilities.
The figures were released by the regional secretary of the Interior, Asunción Quinzá, who said that the role of these inspections is to ensure the safety of citizens and the “rigorous” application of the legislation is a “priority” for the regional Government, in order to “achieve and ensure an appropriate balance between the right to leisure and rest”.
The regional secretary stated that the annual number of complaints relating to this matter stands at around 4,000, whilst legal cases every year reach 500.
The most common offences recorded relate to the lack of appropriate licenses for entertainment and facilities, no insurance and time related infractions.
In a presentation at a Police training conference, when the figures were discussed, Quinzá also emphasized the importance of training of law enforcement officers in this area, which represents 23% of the total number of crimes regional police officers deal with, according to data from 2012.
