The Prince of Asturias, Felipe de Borbón y Grecia, will join the President of the government, Mariano Rajoy, the President of Valencia, Alberto Fabra, and an entourage of dignitaries at the inaugural ceremony of the new AVE, High Speed Train, from Madrid to Alicante on Monday the 17th of June.
So far, the Spanish rail operator, RENFE, has sold a staggering 15,873 tickets for travel on the first day of the service going on sale via their ticket offices and website, which is five times the normal number of 3,258 seats booked for conventional rail services on the same day last year.
The official opening of this new link AVE will be on Tuesday the 18th of June, with a two hour and twenty minute standard journey time.
The Valencia president announced today that there are already 6,000 seats on offer for every day on this prestigious service, covering nine trains each way, with an additional service on Friday, with special offers also available through the RENFE website.
