EVERY THIRTY SECONDS, THERE IS AN ABORTION IN THE U.S.

On January 22, 1973 the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in the case “Roe Vs. Wade “which allowed, since that sentence was mandatory by law, the legalization of abortion in the country. Since then, over 55 million children have been killed. The argentine Center for Bioethics Person and Family (centrodebioetica.org) has issued a comment on the implications of the judgment and has proposed a revision of it, in the light of a study conducted by the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which has been released by the argentine agency AICA.

In the case of “Roe vs. Wade “, the Supreme Court invalidated, by 7 votes to 2, a Texas criminal law prohibiting abortion except where it was necessary to preserve maternal life. The Supreme Court argued that the right to privacy of the 14th Amendment included the right of women to decide whether to continue the pregnancy. Thus, it was approved at the highest judicial level of the United States the right to kill. Four decades have been met and 55,772,015 abortions have occurred in the United States since the court ruling “Roe Vs. Wade “. It’s been 40 years since the legalization of abortion for any reason at any time during pregnancy. The figure, which was published by the newspaper “Life News”, means an abortion every 30 seconds in the United States.

Now, the government of Uruguay, who approved the liberalization of abortion in late 2012, seems not to have anticipated the large number of gynecologists who would bring objection of conscience. The Ministry of Health launched a campaign to reduce the scope of conscientious objections, a right which is recognized in the Law of Sexual and Reproductive Health in force. Doctors objectors to abortion-which is allowed until 12 weeks gestation, represent, according to official figures, 30% of the total, although other studies put the proportion between 50% and 60%. In some regions of Uruguay as the department of Salto, the objections reach 100%, and in Paysandu, 90%.

One hundred doctors denounced “veiled threats” by the Ministry and try to put a complaint with the Latin American Human Rights Court. The Catholic Circle, a medical institution that refuses to perform abortions, has been investigated on suspicion of having forced doctors to sign their objection of conscience.

Conscientious objectors can see frustrated their careers. In addition, an objector will have no chance of reaching a department head. Uruguay is the second country in Latin America after Cuba to legalize abortion and every operation there can cost around $ 1,000 (Source: Aceprensa).
