Hundreds of people took part in the programme of activities arranged last Sunday in Las Casicas to celebrate the day of San Juan

The day began with the crowning of the Child Queen, Gisela Gallego, who together with her Maids of Honour, was acclaimed to the accompanying music of a local band provided from the Horadada Musical Union. There followed a day of partying and activities for children.

The winner of the town Tortillas Competition was chosen by the mayor, Jose Fidel Ros, who selected the champion based on presentation, taste and originality. Manoli Fernandez won first prize while the award for the most innovative entry went to Rachel.

Members of the government team, headed by the Mayor, celebrated the fiesta alongside hundreds of residents who all gathered at the Las Casicas. The Major took the opportunity to recognize the work of Gregorio y and Josefa, who have been organizing the fiesta in the small Pilar neighbourhood for 28 years. They were presented with a bouquet of flowers and a plaque in honor for their efforts.

Manuel Luzon provided live music during the evening which culminated at midnight with the lighting of the bonfires on the beach. A spokesman said that everything passed without incident and residents are now looking forward to attending the celebrations once again, next year.
