Los Salerosos Musical Society travelled from Torrevieja last weekend to Faleria, a small town in the province of Viterbo in Italy, where, along with a group of dancers form the Municipal Dance School, they took part in La Frústica, an Italian festival of traditional music.

The musicians were accompanied by Mayor Eduardo Dolon and Councillor of Culture, Luis Maria Pizana, who were both invited to attend the festival by the mayor of Faleria.

Resplendent in their colourful uniforms Los Saleros gave a magnificent performance as they marched through the streets of the town accompanied by a choreographed routine from the Torrevieja School of Municipal Dance.

The occasion was also used to reopen the recently refurbished town hall at which ceremony the guests of honour were Eduardo Dolon and the Prefect of the Province of Viterbo.

During the ceremony the Faleria Mayor, Marco del Vechio, proposed that the two towns should begin the process of twinning. He said that there had been a strong musical bond between the two towns for more than a decade, as a result of the solid friendship between Faleria musicians and Torrevieja.

He further announced the renaming of a square in Faleria with the name of Torrevieja, handing over a copy of the street sign to Eduardo Dolon. Snr Dolon thanked the mayor and reciprocated by presenting a street sign bearing the name of Faleria which would be devoted to a Torrevieja street on his return.

Snr Dolon then made a short speech in Italian highlighting the great bonds of union between the people of both towns.

The festival ended on Sunday night and the performance was so outstanding that according to Musical Director Guillermo Hernandez Los Salerosos Musical Society have already received numerous invitations to travel back to other parts of Italy.

Similarly the students from the Municipal Dance School have been also been invited to dance again next December in Rome, along with the band of the Italian Navy.

On returning to Torrevieja Los Salerosos Musical Society will continue with the final planning for the eleventh edition of the International Festival of Bands, which will be held during late August. But before that further engagements will be met in Germany, Belgium and Italy.
