ORIHUELA SUMMER SCHOOLS ATTRACT 700 CHILDREN

Rosa Martinez, opened Orihuela’s summer schools at a ceremony in the Colegio Público de Molins

The Councillor for Education, Rosa Martinez, opened Orihuela’s summer schools last Monday at a ceremony that was held in the Colegio Público de Molins. Like last year, 700 children have been enrolled by their parents into classes at nursery and primary school levels.

They will be held in some the 12 centers which are hosting the activities in seven districts (Desamparados, La Aparecida, Hurchillo, Molins, La Murada, san Bartolomé y La Matanza), three in the town and two others on the Costa. Martinez has confirmed that there are still some places available.

This year we have opened all the schools in all of the districts, except La Campaneta, where fewer than 12 children were enrolled.

Martinez said “We all have the need to reconcile work and family life, to ensure that our children do not watch too much television to the detriment of other activities. We must ensure that their skills are developed in a playful and fun way.” She thanked the directors of the participating colleges making especial mention of del colegio Miguel Hernández where 228 students have been placed.

The principle responsible for the summer schools, Paloma Ferrer, said that the activities for the children will be recreational, but also educational, and are based on three main activities: “sports, nature and art.” All are accompanied by workshops “such as reading, living and leisure”.

Rosa Martinez has also opened summer English language schools at Entrenaranjos and el Palacio del Agua. At Entrenaranjos there are only seats for the second course while, while at el Palacio del Agua 22 children have enrolled 22 in phase one leaving 8 places still vacant.
