Despite filling stations already having been criticised for increasing the price of petrol and diesel on a Monday, the day that Europe monitors fuel prices across the network to compile their own figures, one chain of fuel providers is offering an incentive to fill up on a Friday to motorists in Spain.
Repsol has announced that they will reduce the price of petrol and diesel every Friday in July and August, making sure that you get the lowest price of the week in time to fill up before the weekend´s drive.
In a statement, Repsol says the move is aimed to “encourage” drivers to fill the tanks of their vehicles on a Friday in the months of the year with more displacement on the roads.
The company’s commitment to “ensure” the lowest price of the week will run until the last Friday in August at all service stations in their network´s group, including those branded as Repsol, Campsa and Petronor, a total of 3,615 service stations.
Defending the previous criticism, Repsol say that they only recommend the maximum price to filling stations, and these stations have “complete freedom to set the final sales price to the public”. The lower Monday price is nothing to do with the European check up they say, but is rather an initiative that adds to the business strategy of the company to reduce prices on Monday, the “day that transportation professionals mostly use to fill their fuel tank ahead of their weekly activity”.
This week, coinciding with the first mass movement of the summer holidays, the average price of fuel in Spain has reported a decrease from the previous minimum, according to data from the EU Oil Bulletin. According to these statistics, the average price of a litre of petrol is 1.421 euro, down from 1.425, representing a decrease of 0.28%, whereas for diesel, the average price was 1.332 euro per litre, 0.15% less than previous 1.334 euro.
