CORVERA AIRPORT OPEN BY EASTER?

The Murcia regional president, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, has announced with almost certainty that a new tender process will start this month for the running of the new Murcia Regional Airport at Corvera.

When asked if there are any companies that have already expressed an interest in bidding for the contract, Valcárcel said the he has “no idea”, but assumed emphatically that “there will be interest, because the airport is a necessity for this region and whilst necessary, it will also be profitable”

Although dates have come and gone so far, the politician expressed his desire to see that the airport is fully operational to passenger traffic “by Easter”, to which aim he hopes “all is well” to achieve that.

Last May, the Ministry of Public Works and Planning initiated a process of termination of the contract with the Aeromur partnership, on account that they had “breached the contract”.

The future of San Javier still remains, with many officials now calling for it to remain open, even when Corvera is operational, but others argue that the military status of what San Javier hopes to achieve would conflict with a passenger airport, although many are confident that a compromise may now be reached.
