The list of people drowning is still continuing to grow, with the latest recorded victim being a 2 year old German boy who lost his life after falling into a private pool at a home in the La Siesta urbanisation in Torrevieja.
This incident occurred at around 4pm on Wednesday when the child´s mother noticed he was no longer in view, only to find his lifeless body floating in the pool.
The police and medics attended the scene but all resuscitation attempts failed, with medical staff only able to confirm the tragic death.
The Guardia Civil has opened up an investigation to confirm the circumstances surrounding this latest incident.
This summer is looking set to be one of the worst in history in terms of deaths by drowning, despite government efforts to raise awareness of the dangers of the water, as well as life guards repeating advice about parents and guardians monitoring children closely.
Following the deaths of three young children in Ontinyent, Godella and Montserrat, lifesaving professionals believe that their presence in aquatic facilities should be higher and highlight the need to monitor children, “without losing sight for a second”, as well as using life jackets and inflatable floats for children near the water at all times.
