MAYOR CHAIRS TORREVIEJA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
At a meeting chaired by the mayor, Eduardo Dolon, representatives from Torrevieja’s Chamber of Commerce gathered last Tuesday on the premises of the New Tourist Information Office in Paseo Vista Alegre.
Among the items discussed were issues such as illegal hawking and the liberalization of trading hours during the summer holiday months.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Guardia Civil who explained the procedures they were putting in place to eradicate illegal street sales. But they did also state that many of the actions outlined could only be carried out as long as their numbers were reinforced to meet their additional commitments due to the large increase in population that Torrevieja will experience in July and August. If this were the case they would be able to increase police presence on the city streets.
It was stated that local trading hours are subject to the number allowed by the Generalitat Valenciana but they should be increased in order to compete with the malls of Orihuela Costa, however the representatives from Los Verdes and los Comerciantes de la Plasa abstained from the vote.
In regard to the Local Hospitality, the Mayor congratulated the organizers of the recent Gastronomic Fair “Torrevieja and the Sea” which was held over the past two weeks was once again a great success with members of the public who were able to sample the excellent
cuisine in the area.
He concluded by saying that Hospitality Association of Torrevieja are going to start the process, of ensuring restaurants in the town are considered for inclusion in the Michelin Guide.
