The official state bulletin has now been issued, passing into the statutes, that from the 12th of July, 2013, the principal airport serving the Costa Blanca is called “Alicante-Elche” airport.
The renaming of the airport has been an ongoing process since October last year, with The Leader following it every step of the way, including recent campaigns for businesses and locals to donate for the purchase of the signs, as well as a campaign to name the airport El Altet, after the town in which the airport is situated.
We have also reported on the fact that most people actually called the airport “El Altet”, and that this was never the name of the facility, although there was a campaign along with this one for it to be adopted.
However, all things considered, there is now no turning back and the airport will forever officially be called “Alicante-Elche”, apart from those who continue to ignore this and allow it to have the adopted name that the locals have grown to love.
