The police in Spain have arrested 56 year old Brian Colin Charrington, an English drug trafficker and owner of a car dealership in Middlesbrough who, along with Curtis “Cocky” Warren, operated in North East England during the late 1980´s, eventually building a criminal empire with links to Germany, France, Spain and Austria as well as connections in South America, Israel and the United States.

Charrington was listed as one of the ten most wanted criminals in Europe, as an international drug baron sought by the European authorities, in an operation that has resulted in thirteen arrests in Spain and Venezuela, the seizure of 220 kilos of cocaine in a house in the Alicante town of L’Albir and the seizure of goods worth five million euro, according to the Directorate General of Police.

Along with Charrington, one of his sons and his current girlfriend, who had allegedly travelled to Venezuela with the intention of preparing a new shipment of cocaine through boats, were also arrested.

The agents seized more than 220 kilos of cocaine hidden in a flat in L’Albir and proceeded to lock bank accounts, property and goods worth over five million euro. The operation began in early 2010 and the Spanish police collaborated with the British SOCA, the ONA of Venezuela and AMERIPOL, as well as other judicial and law enforcement institutions.

Charrington, based on the Alicante coast for at least 15 years, was arrested in 1997 in Calpe, accused of being the mastermind of a well contrived plot that was responsible for supplying drugs to Spain, UK, France and Italy. Then, at age 41, he had bought a Robinson RH-22 helicopter with which he made frequent trips north of Morocco. In addition, this helicopter was used to watch and alert those on the ground of the approach of Customs Surveillance patrols or Guardia Civil. Charrington, was arrested again in January 2007, shortly after leaving prison.
