The summer might be in full swing, but TV schedulers are already lining up a bumper autumn and winter for us.

Fresh from his role as Karl Munro on the cobbles of Corrie, former Taggart star John Michie will join the cast of Holby City, new consultant neurosurgeon Guy Self, who combines passion and unpredictability with a hint of danger, ruffling a few feathers and definitely shaking things up. Camilla Arfwedson is another addition, playing plain-speaking new junior doctor (F1) who causes immediate waves with her forthright manner and unique attitude to life on the wards. As well as Miss Marple, Camilla has been in Lewis and Law And Order UK. Not only is Holby refreshing the permanent staff in the hospital, there will be guest star aplenty coming up, including Paul O’Grady, who will make a guest appearance as cancer patient Tim Connor. Paul said, “I’m a big fan of Holby City so to be featuring in three episodes is absolutely brilliant”.

Brian Cox and Julie Graham will star alongside Douglas Henshall as Detective Jimmy Perez for a six-part second series of the critically acclaimed drama, Shetland, focusing on the three remaining stories from Ann’s Shetland quartet – Raven Black, Blue Lightning and Dead Water – told as three two-part episodes.

Fly on the wall documentaries get a reprise, with One Born Every Minute being recommissioned, as well as a brand new six-part series enters the new world of our burgeoning complaints culture and its impact on British industry. Just who are The Complainers?

For comedy fans, Phone Shop and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown will be back, as well as comedies commissioned by the BBC, including Puppy Love for BBC Four and the re-commission of the critically-acclaimed Count Arthur Strong for BBC Two.

This is just a sprinkling of new and refreshed shows to look forward to. We will bring you more information in our entertainment section on the website, www.theleader.info, as well as on Exite Radio, 89.2 or 93.1fm, or www.exiteradio.com.
