The prestigious Airbus A380, double-decker plane, will have its first permanent route from a Spanish airport from the 1st of February, 2014.
Flying on behalf of Emirates airline, the A380 will cover their daily Barcelona to Dubai service, a route that only started in July of last year, replacing the current Boeing 777-300ER aircraft currently being used, increasing the number of seats available by 44% with the Airbus offering 517 places.
According to Hubert Frach, Senior Vice President of Emirates Commercial Operations for the West, “Barcelona was one of the most successful destinations opened in 2012”, continuing, “Given the sustained growth, we believe that the time has come to announce the launch of our A380 service, which will continue to connect our customers in Spain and Dubai to key destinations in Australasia, the Indian subcontinent and the Far East”.
The increased capacity will also strengthen Barcelona markets, including 12 destinations served by the Emirates A380 in Australia, the Far East and the Middle East, which will allow passengers to enjoy an unparalleled experience in the biggest and most luxurious aircraft of its kind.
