On Sunday evening the Torrevieja Municipal Theatre hosted a Summer Concert performed by the Torrevieja Musical Union, and sponsored by the Provincial Council of Alicante. The concert was attended by Mayor, Eduardo Dolon, accompanied by various members of the local council and the renowned musician Francisco Grau.
In the first part of the concert the UMT played two works directed by Jaime Belda Cantavella, the overture to "Rienzi" by Richard Wagner, to mark the birth of the composer, and the Symphonic Poem "Poema Montagnard" by Jan Van Der Roost.
The second part of the concert began with the presentation of the award to the winning composer of the tenth edition of the Music for a symphonic Band, entitled: Cirta (symphonic poem), Manuel Seco de Arpe.
After he read the comments from the Jury, Mayor Eduardo Dolon, presented the prize, worth 12,000 euros, to the composer, who also received a ship of salt, from the Jury Secretary, José Miguel Toro
Both made brief speeches highlighting the importance of the prize, which is and incentive for composers, to compose new works and that enrich the musical heritage of our country.
As a finale to the concert the Musical union played the winning entry, a beautiful composition that evokes Arab influences. A set of melodious sounds that resemble a spectacular "Soundtrack of a film set in Africa." The audience showed their appreciation with a standing ovation.
