OPPOSITION DEMANDS CLOSURE OF PINE FOREST TO TRAFFIC

Guardamar’s Socials Opposition group have branded the mayor’s partial opening of the pine forest in the municipality to traffic as completely irresponsible saying that it threatens the area’s important environmental heritage.

On the same day that they declared mayor Carmen Verdú’s implementation of paid parking on coastal streets as a complete and utter failure, they expressed their dismay and surprise at the partial opening to traffic of la calle Ingeniero Codorniu which leads through the pine forest.

Councillor Eric Gilabert said that the mayor had no legitimate authority to open the road and she was endangering one of the most important assets of the municipality where, for many years, there had only been pedestrian access to the area which had provided better conservation.

He also stated that all last week, as we approach the height of the holiday season, there were hundreds of empty parking lots in the new blue zone, Benamor and avenida de la Libertad, in the area close to the beach and that trade at the center had “totally collapsed”.
