According to estimates in the Active Population Survey (EPA) drafted by the National Statistics Institute (INE), employment rose by 149,000 in the second quarter of 2013 when compared with the previous quarter, while 15,900 jobs were shed in the same period of 2012. 633,500 jobs were shed the last year, a decline of 3.64% compared with 4.58% in the previous quarter. Unemployment fell by 225,200, which compares with an increase of 53,600 in the same period last year.
