FRIENDS OF THE CHILDREN OF EMAÚS

The community in Relleu and surrounding the villages are aware that the Emaús home in Relleu is suffering seriously during the recession in Spain. Just as do the other Emaús homes around the country, it relies very much on donations for much of their funding which is why ‘Friends of the Children of Emaús’, the Charity based in Calpe and headed by the Association’s President Carole Saunders, is so important.

Thanks to Elsie and David and Friends in Muxtamel who created a lovely event at the Hong Kong Restaurant in Campello on August 10th. Over 40 guests enjoyed a lovely Chinese lunch. The purpose of the event was to raise funds to pay for the Relleu Children’s school books for the Autumn Term. €400 was raised on the day.

The Muxtamel Friends also paid the gas bill last week – Campello Social Club contributed €500 toward that with the Friends supplying the remaining €490. Thanks from us all,

FORTHCOMING EVENTS FOR THE Relleu CHILDREN

SEPTEMBER 15TH – 3.30PM – CHILDREN OF EMAUS HOME IN RELLEU (follow the road to Agues; turn left immediately after Rust&Co; the car park is a few hundred yards on your right)

The next big event in Relleu will take place actually at the Children’s Home on September 15th from 3.30pm until 8pm. A BBQ with wine or beer will be served and we are pleased to announce that the well-known local singer and entertainer, Tony Francis, will be performing for us. They say Tony is an entertainer who is impossible to pigeon hole. His music crosses the decades and he involves his audience in his act. He can be a party animal but can also sing gentle, easy listening songs. With children and adults to entertain we think we may see both aspects of this local personality. Saturday, September 28th at Pueblo Espanol in El Campello

Elsie will be holding a table top sale at this popular rastro. If anyone has anything to contribute, including time on the day, please contact Elsie on 965 950 986.

Saturday, December 7th, at HONG KONG, Campello

The Christmas lunch at Hong Kong Restaurant will raise funds for the Children’s Christmas gifts. Please arrive at 1.30 for 2pm start; this is bound to be a very popular event so PLEASE BOOK EARLY by calling Elsie on 965 950 986..

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED specifically to help out at weekends at El Cisne in Benidorm. This very popular Rastro attracts hundreds every weekend and the plan is to have a space on a regular basis to sell good quality items. Please contact Di on 633 378 938 if you can help out.

Currently three ladies, Di (Relleu), Elsie (Muxtamel) and Sue (Busot) are between them leading the very local fundraising efforts specifically for the Relleu home and because of that involvement, for all of the Emaús homes under the wing of Carole Saunders and Friends of the Children of Emaús.
