Officers from the rural security force of the Generalitat Police have confiscated a total of 763 kilos of fruit and vegetables, 513 kilos in Torrevieja, the remaining in Pedralba.
According to a report from the Ministry of the Interior and Justice, the Torrevieja seizure was carried out from an illegal seller located near the Playa del Cura.
In a statement, the police said that the person had been administratively sanctioned, for “having no business license for that activity and street selling without permission”. Presumably this seller managed to somehow evade the Torrevieja police patrols.
The total find was 350 kilos of melons, 88 kilos of peaches, 20 kilos of grapes, 30 kilos of figs, 20 kilos of tomatoes and 5 kilos of plums, all of which were delivered to a solidarity organization based in Torrevieja to be distributed amongst the needy.
In Pedralba, officers spotted a vehicle with two people carrying 250 kilos of carob, for which they could not confirm the origin, and were subsequently deposited in a cooperative in the municipality, where they will remain for 5 days, pending documentary evidence of ownership being presented by those involved, or these items will also be freely distributed.
