Guardia Civil officers from Valencia have arrested a 31 year old man, originally from Belgium, charged with a crime against road safety, after the vehicle he was driving registered a speed of 252 kilometres per hour on the AP-7 motorway near the town of Almussafes.

According to a statement from the officers, the incident occurred on Wednesday, when a team involved in a radar speed check identified a “high-end” vehicle travelling at high speed.

Their equipment registered the car moving at 252 kilometres per hour, more than double the maximum permitted 120, and so the officers proceeded to identify and subsequent arrest the man, identified with the initials SR, as the author of a crime against road safety for speeding. The man was then made available to the courts to deal with.

The maximum permitted speed on the motorways of Belgium is the same as Spain, at 120 kilometres per hour.
