Following yesterday´s announcement that unemployment had dropped in July, the trend continued in August, according to figures released today, although not quite matching the near 65,000 reduction of July, August saw a total of 31 people finding work, but on a more positive note, this is the first August since the year 2000 that unemployment has dropped.

The DGT traffic department released the summer road death toll for this year, with a total of 235 people losing their lives in traffic accidents in July and August, representing a decline of 10% in a summer with nearly three million fewer journeys and in which older cars, those of 10 years of age or more, were involved in 57% of all fatal accidents.

Doctors have called for parents and schools to take measures to prevent back pain affecting many scholars, after an historic problem of posture has been highlighted by a report released on Tuesday. They call for schools to provide lockers for children to keep their books, rather than carrying them in a rucksack, as well as better seating whilst in the classroom.
