Monday will mark the official opening of the rebuilt Acequión school in Torrevieja, after students have spent years in portacabins whilst a decision was made on the near derelict building.
Some 6,333 pupils will be taught in the fourteen schools in Torrevieja, an increase of just over 100 from last year, although the continually increasing growth of the last eight years is said to becoming more “settled”.
Unusually, there has been activity at the site right through the summer season, with nothing but minor aesthetic improvements outstanding. The school itself is larger than the original centre, complete with extensive play areas and dining rooms.
Whereas the PP government team will no doubt be flying the flags of praise for their new school, parents and pupils in neighbouring Orihuela may return to term even more disillusioned by the lack of progress in their municipality, especially as the regional Partido Popular have effectively refused to offer any kind of explanation of the delay or timescale in getting the long awaited schools of Orihuela finished.
